Media Distillery to explore compact, open-source AI models for media applications
With support from the Province of North Holland and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Media Distillery is carrying out a feasibility study under the MIT scheme (SME Innovation Stimulus for Regions and Top Sectors).
In the SLIM project (Small Language models for Intelligent Metadata-analysis), we will investigate whether large open-source AI models can be distilled into compact, task-specific models for analysing video content at scale. Such models can run on our own European infrastructure. That would make AI for broadcasters, streaming services and telecom operators more efficient, more affordable and better aligned with European requirements on privacy and data residency.
The study will look at the technical, economic and legal feasibility of this approach, and lay the groundwork for a possible follow-up R&D project.
We thank the Province of North Holland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs for their support.
