Before: A plain video timeline. Users must scrub through to the find the topics that interest them
After: An automatically annotated timeline with points of interest created with generative AI. Users can jump directly to the accurate timecode for a topic that interests them.
Before: The replay video is a single flat file. It contains the same adverts as the original broadcast. Users can’t see when the ads are placed or how long the break will be. It’s impossible for operators to offer ad-skipping or attractive trickplay options.
After: AI accurately pinpoints the ad breaks and reveals the information to users to improve the user experience. The operator can offer ad-skipping for enhanced revenue and improved UX. Or they can enable trick-play during the programming while disabling it for ad breaks.
Before: The replay recording of a cartoon show starts at the scheduled start time for the program. The user must fast forward through many minutes of a random cooking show before they get to the actual point at which their cartoon actually started. The end of the cartoon programme may be missing because the recording cuts out.
After: The actual start time of the cartoon show is automatically detected and the user gets a replay that starts at the precise point where the show began. They avoid the frustrating FFWD through the end of the previous cooking show. They get to watch the whole of the cartoon they’re interested in.
Before: The images shown for different replay programmes are the same for a whole series, so the user can’t tell whether the topics or guests for particular episodes are interesting to them.
After: Attractive images are automatically generated from the video recording and provided to the UI. This gives viewers the ability to see at-a-glance what topics, places, characters or people are featured in each episode. Users are more likely to engage with specific episodes.
Before: The video service has no visibility of what topics are being featured at a given point in each replay video. They can’t optimise advertising CPM because they can’t offer tagging data to drive contextual advertising.
After: Media Distillery’s AI automatically detects topics, places and themes within the video replay. Contextual and time-aligned data is supplied to the advertising platform enabling the service to contextually match relevant ads to your video content.
